The corse develops from a general discussion of the differences between management of international public and NGO organizations and similar organizations at the national level or below, through an examination of the management process to a consideration of the application of analysis methods to specific organizations. The goal is to provide students with the tools to be intelligent consumers of international services, effective participants in their governance and, at an introductory level, how to evaluate them. |

In the increasing global environment of today, numerous firms have established telecommunications networks traversing national boundaries. This course will concentrate on evaluating and understanding the implications and problems associated with such international ventures. A major part of the course will be spent on identifying the major players in the global information infrastructure; standards setting bodies and procedures; and the various regulatory processes which will be encountered. We will focus on the policies and procedures that are unique to the application of technologies in a global market. Further, the underlying principles of establishing, managing and utilizing such networks will be investigated. Students will research the telecommunications industry in another country and develop a comprehensive written report, supplemented by an oral presentation. |
